About

Kay Psalms

Kay Psalms is a Gospel/R&B artist, songwriter, and founder of Rhythm and Faith Music LLC and Rhythm and Faith Publishing LLC, based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. A gifted vocalist who first pursued music in her twenties, Kay stepped away from the industry to raise her family — and returned years later through a season of profound loss, faith, and creative renewal. Today she writes and records music that blends the soul of R&B with the truth of God's Word, giving listeners a biblical anchor they can carry through every challenge and every victory. Kay Psalms doesn't perform for a stage — she ministers from a place of obedience, pointing every listener toward Jesus Christ.

My Story

I was born and raised in Russellville, Alabama — a small, close-knit, family-oriented community where everyone knows everyone, just about 90 miles west of Birmingham near the Shoals area. I graduated from Russellville High School where I was voted most likely to succeed, best looking, and most studious.

I went on to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I had the time of my life until circumstances brought me to Nashville, Tennessee, where a new chapter quietly began.

In my 20s, I was chasing a dream. I sang cover tunes in a cover band while writing my own songs, with hopes of one day becoming a singer/songwriter in the field of R&B music. I was on my way to signing my first record deal when life happened and everything took a sudden turn. I became a mother, then a wife, then a mother three more times over — and the woman who once had dreams of pursuing her passion went silent under the weight and responsibilities of raising a family.

For years, I didn't write. I didn't sing. I didn't even listen to music very much at all. As time passed and I got older, I came up with every reason in the book to believe that season of my life was over.

Then suddenly, around 2017, I was invited to sing backup in an R&B cover band called Mosaic Rhythm. That season reignited something in me I thought was dead and buried. But my voice, years dormant, wasn't ready for what was being asked of it. Vocal strain and torn cords took me out again — and this time, I told myself it was final. I accepted it and moved on. My life became: go to work, come home, cook and take care of my family, go to the kids' sporting events, come home, clean up, wash uniforms, shower, sleep three hours, and repeat. And to be honest, that was just fine with me. I had no complaints.

But for whatever reason, God just wouldn't let me be. One by one He sent voices through friends, family, strangers, pastors, children, cartoons, TV shows, sermons — any method He could use to tell me that I was not done yet, and that I still had work to do for the Kingdom of God.

Of course, I had my 'Moses at the burning bush' moment — where I tried to tell God that I knew myself better than He does. I told God I was too old. Too flawed. Too fat. Too busy. Not good enough because my voice was too damaged, too raspy, too deep — and that He would do better to just use someone else.

But just like God told Moses that He had sovereign power over human limitations and commanded him to go anyway — promising to help him speak and tell him what to say — God told me to just go. Do it anyway. In spite of all of my human limitations, He promised that if I just took the first step and trusted Him, He would do the rest.

Fast forward to 2024. I experienced the most traumatic season of my life when I lost the three most beloved people in my world — my kids' father, my mom, and my grandmother — all within a few months of each other. Navigating grief, helping my kids survive it, and holding myself together was the hardest challenge I've ever faced.

But God didn't waste a single tear. Like a refiner's fire, He sat with me in the flames — burning away everything that wasn't meant to remain until He could finally see His reflection in me. And though it was painful, I needed every moment of it.

It was through that fire that something shifted. I began to write again. Then I began to sing again — this time not for a stage, but for a purpose. With the help of a talented cousin from Hollywood who came home and showed me how to build my own home studio and introduced me to music creation tools that changed everything — what followed was nothing short of a holy download.

Songs began to come in waves. Two or three a day, sometimes around the clock — so relentless I'd take off from my day job just to write and get it all out of my head before it passed.

Then God began to open doors and connect me with the right people, transforming what was once a buried dream into a growing, breathing reality.

Today I stand as Kay Psalms — a Gospel/R&B singer and songwriter with my own record label, Rhythm and Faith Music, and publishing company, Rhythm and Faith Publishing — carrying a song catalog that perfectly blends the soul of R&B with the truth of God's Word, to reach hearts where they are and point them toward the healing, hope, and salvation found in Jesus Christ.

Scripture is the foundation of every lyric I write — giving you a biblical anchor that's easy to carry through every challenge and every victory of everyday life. And if it makes you want to two-step along the way, consider that a bonus.

I understand that this is not about me. This is a ministry — born out of my obedience to the Holy Spirit's call to do my part to point people to Jesus Christ.

This is only the beginning. And I'm just getting started — one song, one soul at a time.
